Joe Poxon is a second-year centre forward.

Danny Heath: "Joe has been at the Club since under-7s and he bleeds Blue. Everything that he does is for the benefit of the Club and the team more than for himself. Joe leads the line well and he is excellent at protecting the ball to ensure that he can link up play and so that the team can sustain the attack in the final third of the pitch. His quality on end product to either score or create is also very good. Out of possession Joe is relentless in pressing the opposition with speed, intensity and controlled aggression to regain the ball back high up the pitch. Joe is the captain for the under-19s team for this season and he is also a part of the player leadership group and will continue to ensure that the team are maintaining high standards of professionalism both on and off the pitch."

Joe Poxon: "I have played for Southend since the age of six, coming all the way through the academy and have now made over 40 competitive youth team appearances. My favorite moment being a Southend United youth team player is captaining the side for this season."
