Kanu joined the club on a short-term loan from Charlton Athletic on 6 October 2023.

The teenager scored three times for the Addicks’ first team at the start of the 2023/24 campaign, including two in League One. In 2022/23, Kanu made 10 appearances in the third tier for Charlton.

Across the 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns, Kanu netted a remarkable 23 goals in 17 games in the Professional Development League, which is for under-21s, meaning he was playing significantly above his age group.

Kanu joined Charlton at under-11 level and signed his first professional deal in February 2022, going on to score his first goal for them in the EFL Trophy nine months later.
