The striker had put Blues ahead against Aldershot Town, but two goals from the visitors after he was substituted saw the Shots take all three points.

After the final whistle, Murphy said: “It was nice to score, but they had some chances, so we were potentially a little bit lucky to go in 1-0 at half-time, then two quick goals and we’ve lost the game. It’s bitterly disappointing and there’s a lot that we need to rectify.

“I can’t remember the last time I started two games in a row, so from a personal point of view, that was positive.

“I’m just trying to get my fitness and sharpness up and I want to contribute to the team. It’s great to be out there, but I want to win games.”

He went on to show his belief in the squad with eight games remaining this season, and says it’ll only take one result to get back going again.

“When you lose a few games, confidence does drop. You maybe start second guessing yourselves or you don’t play as freely as you do when you’re winning games.

“Sometimes it can take an ugly win to get back into a run of form or just a bit of luck. The season’s not done and there’s still lots to play for. We’ve been on runs before so we’re just looking for that first one to get us back on our way.”

Murphy tried to put the disappointment to one side and look ahead to a full week of training with no midweek game.

“We said on Friday that we want to win, and we’ve lost another game, at home from a winning position, so it doesn’t get much worse.

“It’s very, very frustrating, but we need to dust ourselves down, take a look at the positives and what we need to be working on in preparation for the next game.”

The next game sees Blues travel to Greater Manchester to play Altrincham on Saturday.
